ZenDebt is a private record-keeping app for a household’s money. It helps you write down what you earn, spend, save, lend and owe, and shows it back to you as totals, reminders and reports.
Please read this before you start. It says what the app stores, what it deliberately does not, and what you can expect from us.
What this app is — and is not
ZenDebt is a notebook, not a bank. It records the figures you type in.
- It never connects to your bank, and it cannot move, send or withdraw money.
- It does not read your bank statements, SMS messages or emails.
- Nothing it shows you is financial, investment, tax or legal advice. The numbers are your own records, added up.
What we ask you for
Only what the app needs to work:
- Your name and email address, and a password (which we store only as an irreversible hash — nobody, including us, can read it back).
- The financial records you choose to enter: amounts, dates, categories, notes, and the names of the people in your household.
- A nickname for each account, and — if you want it — the LAST FOUR DIGITS only, so you can tell two accounts apart.
- Basic technical details when you sign in: the kind of device and browser, and your IP address, kept as a security record.
What we never ask for, and never store
This list is a promise about the software itself. There is no field, no form and no column anywhere in ZenDebt that would accept any of the following, and you should refuse to give them to anyone who asks in our name:
- Aadhaar number, PAN, or any government identity number.
- A full bank account number, IFSC code, or a cheque image.
- Any debit or credit card number, expiry date or CVV.
- Your UPI PIN, net-banking password, ATM PIN, or any one-time password from your bank.
- Access to your bank, your UPI app, or any account you hold elsewhere.
Who in your household can see your records
A household is shared on purpose — that is the point of it. Be clear about what that means before you enter anything.
- The household admin (the person who created the household) can see every record in it, including the ones you enter.
- The admin decides what each member can see, add and remove. They may hide whole sections from you, or limit you to your own records.
- The admin can change a member’s password and sign their devices out. You are told by email when they do.
- If you want records that nobody else in your household can see, do not put them here.
What we do with your records
We use them to run the service for you, and for nothing else.
- To show you your own totals, reports and reminders.
- To send you the emails the app produces — a code when you sign in, a reminder for a bill you asked to be reminded about, a receipt when you pay for the service.
- To keep the service working and secure, and to investigate a problem if you report one.
- We do not sell your records. We do not share them with advertisers. We do not use them to train anything.
Paying for the service
If your household pays a subscription, you pay by UPI in your own UPI app and then tell us the reference number. The payment happens entirely outside ZenDebt.
- We never see your UPI PIN or your card details, because you never enter them here.
- We keep the amount, the date and the reference you give us, so we can match your payment to your household.
- If you stop paying, your records are not deleted. You keep full access to read and export everything you have entered; only adding new records is paused.
Keeping it safe
What the software does to protect your records:
- Everything travels over an encrypted connection (HTTPS).
- Passwords are stored as Argon2id hashes and can never be read back, by us or by anyone who obtained a copy of the database.
- Each household’s records are isolated inside the database itself, so one household’s query cannot reach another’s.
- You can turn on two-step sign-in, by emailed code or an authenticator app.
- You can be signed in on a limited number of devices, and you can see and remove them yourself.
- No system is perfectly safe. If something happens that affects your records, we will tell you.
Your records are yours
At any time, without asking permission and without giving a reason:
- You can export everything you have entered as a spreadsheet or CSV file.
- You can correct or remove entries you made (removing keeps a cancelled copy, so your past totals still add up).
- You can ask us to delete your household and everything in it. That is permanent and cannot be undone.
- You can withdraw your agreement to these terms. That means the account stops being usable — so export anything you want to keep first.
How long we keep things
Your records stay while your household exists, because they are the reason you are here — we do not delete a family’s books because they missed a payment.
When a household is deleted, its records are removed permanently. A small audit log of security events (sign-ins, permission changes, deletions) and this record of your agreement are kept separately, because their whole purpose is to be able to say later what happened.
Children and dependents
A household admin may create logins for children or other dependents. If you do, you are responsible for that account and for what is recorded in it, and you decide what that person can see.
If something goes wrong
The app is provided as it is. We work to keep it correct and available, but we cannot promise it will never be unavailable or never contain a mistake.
The figures in ZenDebt are the ones you entered. Check anything important against your own bank or statement before you rely on it for a decision.
Indian law applies to these terms.
Changes, and getting in touch
If these terms change in any way that matters, you will be shown the new version and asked again before you continue. The version you agreed to, and the date, is kept on record.
